Ever since I started playing Sonic the Hedgehog games on my Playstation 2, I have dreamed of creating my own video games. Inspired by the imaginative levels, along with the fast-paced and action packed gameplay, my dream is to create a platformer that enthralls the player with an incredible world filled with exciting challenges and unique mechanics at every level. This portfolio will be the starting point of my career, allowing others to view the projects I have made at the University of Tulsa and demonstrating my proficiency with programming.
When making games, I like to be creative by implementing concepts that make my game stand out among other games in it’s genre. I also have a great sense of humor, which inspires me to find ways to add a comedic tone to the game such as making the characters look goofy, or creating a story with nonsensical plot devices. I do enjoy the development process, especially when completing hard tasks. I always get excited when I make progress in developing my game, even if it is a simple implementation such as player movement, because I know that each step gets me closer to the results I have envisioned.
Game development also helps me reflect on my development skills so I know what ideas I could add to the game, how the code would be written, and how much time it would take to create each mechanic. Though I do hope to one day make AAA video games, for now I want to focus on making an Indie games, as those games prove that video game development does not require a massive budget and multitude of features, but rather exciting mechanics and an enjoyable experience. As I continue to create video games, I know that my programming skills will improve and I will one day be able to create a video game that will capture the hearts of players everywhere.
